Warehouse task confirmation failures in SAP EWM: what they mean and how to stabilize

Warehouse task confirmation is where execution meets inventory. When confirmations fail or loop, the symptom is often a task, HU, or integration mismatch — not a single “wrong” message number.

Meaning

In SAP EWM, confirmation finalizes a warehouse task and updates stock, handling units, and downstream documents. Failures usually mean the system cannot post the physical state you expect (quantity, bin, HU, status).

Likely business context

High-volume DCs see this under peak picking, during automation cutover, or when TM and EWM are not aligned on deliveries and freight units.

Resolution path

  1. Validate open warehouse tasks, HU status, and quantity vs delivery line — check for partial picks and suspended tasks.
  2. Review integration: IDoc/OData errors from TM, SD, or external WCS can block confirmation even when RF UI looks fine.
  3. Reconfirm master data: storage bins, pick points, and packing profiles after changes to layout or strategies.
  4. If custom BAdIs or RF enhancements exist, reproduce in test with the same HU and document chain.

When to escalate

Involve ABAP when confirmations fail only with custom RF flows or BAdIs; involve Basis for queue/qRFC errors; involve TM when the break is on delivery or freight unit linkage.
